Summary
RICKERBYS specialist Healthcare Team has put together this list of frequently asked questions about the need for all health and social care providers to re-register.
Q. Why is this happening? A. On April 1, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) was formed out of the ashes of three previous commissions that looked after Mental Health, the National Health Service and Health and Social Care Homes. It was considered appropriate that the new commission should apply the same criteria to registration of all of the services which it now controls. Q. So this is a good thing? A. Not necessarily. The commission has made it clear that there will be no automatic passporting across of existing services into the new regime. It is possible that existing providers of care services, including care and nursing homes, will not comply with the requirements of the registration system, which will mean that from the end of October they will need to close. Q. Isn't it a good thing if the poorer homes are being forced to close? A. Not necessarily. The homes at the poorer end of the scale tend to rely entirely upon social service funding and do not look to their residents' families for top up payments to provide care.See the full content of this document
