Water Firm Profits Hit by Bad Debt

Severn Trent, the water company serving most of Gloucestershire's homes and businesses, said rising bad debts and lower water usage among cash-conscious customers had dented profits.

Severn said growing insolvencies meant it had increased bad debt charges by pounds6.6million in the year to March 31 to pounds34 million or 2.3% of its turnover.
