Cheltenham Jazz Festival: John Scofield Quartet Jazz Arena, Imperial Gardens THIS US guitar star's third festival appearance was the first to find him without beard but with ballads. Scofield is known for his funk-based jazz, but for this gig he brought his new mainstream quartet.
The group opened in familiar style with a Hammond groove that really set the feet tapping. Bill Stewart, drums and Ben Street, bass, made clear the rhythm would be well taken care of. Despite a tight curfew, Scofield was able to fit in a much-demanded encore of his signature tune, The Guinness Spot , proving that good things do indeed come to those who wait.See the full content of this document
