Summary

Comment By Labour Councillor Mary Smith, Matson and Robinswood I SIT on the Planning Committee of Gloucester City Council and we recently discussed a private members club that had applied to open and refurbish the New County in Southgate Street. The application was refused. That is not the issue that upset me so much.

It seems that people are confusing gay people with paedophiles. The comments were suggesting that children, young people and women would be at risk from simply walking down Southgate Street. Quite frankly the only people under threat are the people who would have been using this club from the bigots and homophobes. What was distressing was that some of these people were claiming to be Christians. I do not know where they went to church to learn their form of Christianity.
