RUSSELL Kane has achieved a lot over the past five years, especially when you consider he had never paid any interest in comedy until his mid twenties. The 31 year-old comedian won the coveted Edinburgh Comedy Award last year and arrives in Tewkesbury later this month as part of his new Manscaping tour. "I know Gloucestershire well, I used to go out with a girl whose mum lived in Cheltenham and I've gigged in Gloucester before. The area is great, friendly people and a great accent for comedy because I always do the voice of the audience. It's always a laugh" he says, dipping in and out of a fairly convincing west-country accent. Constantly quick witted and intellectually engaging, Russell achieved a first class honours degree in English and had begun an MA in Modernism before taking up comedy. However, Russell Kane many are surprised to find out that the comedian renown for his exceptional use of language and references to literature was brought up on a council estate by a BNP-supporting father in an environment where reading was frowned upon.
