TWO very important issues were debated in Parliament last week and I made sure that your interests were properly amplified. However, before I address these, I want to underline the importance of reducing our public spending deficit which is costing us Pounds 120 million in interest payments alone each and every day.
Quite understandably, there is massive concern over reductions in public expenditure in local government with, currently, a specific focus on the settlement for Stroud District Council. Most people agree that frontline services including education and social care should be protected so I have worked to achieve exactly that. To this end, I have promoted the causes of our schools, care homes and healthcare services to ministers at every opportunity.
