EACH week we seem to see another pathetic attempt to persuade you that the Citizen should mount some great campaign to achieve a new railway station on the main line at Eastern Avenue. The arguments are always the same - ie that such a facility would "put Gloucester on the map" and consequently greatly increase tourism, prosperity etc.

You will have noticed that the letters come from the same miniscule group of people - perhaps a dozen or so in total who all believe that they are the unelected spokespersons for the whole city. They have absolutely no mandate from anyone and no technical or commercial understanding of what would be involved. Indeed they have no demonstrable support from the general public and yet Keith Waldon (Citizen, November 3) suggests that our MP should "follow the wishes of his electors and press for a mainline station". Clearly the wishes of the electorate are to maintain the status quo and to support the efforts being made to create new jobs within the city.
