Summary
Newnham Players are performing the Harold Pinter classic, 'The Birthday Party', at the village club next week.
The play is a challenging undertaking for an amateur group, full of the menacing silences for which Pinter is famous, verbal savagery, casual and irrational cruelty. It will not make for cosy family entertainment, but under the experienced and imaginative direction of Pamela Elgar, it will be a richly rewarding, if not comfortable, evening's entertainment.
