Learn to Live Green Lifestyle ; Saving the Planet Does Not Have to End at the Close of 2010. It Is a Case of New Year and a New Course at the University of Gloucestershire

Summary

WHETHER you're a tireless campaigner or local authority worker, a new set of short courses has community spirit at heart. Launched in the New Year at the University of Gloucestershire, people can choose the course to help lead greener lives on a budget. From looking at alternative ways of using energy, to getting the most out of shared resources, the Essentials of Community Development (ECD) programme focuses on how to develop sustainable communities in a time of challenging economic cuts. Course leader Dr John Powell said: "We designed the courses to help people from all walks of life put case sustainability into practice. "What to do when the money runs out, understanding the local economy, and getting the most out of available resources are all part of looking at alternative approaches as all communities face a period of change. "The course is open to all; from rural development organisations to local action groups with the aim of increasing capacity for community development." There are four one-day programmes which can be taken either individually or as a whole courses and they include 'making your community sustainable' and 'projects and partnerships- designing, managing and evaluating'. All are quality assured by the university and delivered in Cheltenham.

"Each course will feature a range of practitioners and academics who will give valuable real world perspectives and examples of community development projects and research. "We've tried to accommodate all levels of interest and no previous qualifications are necessary," he said.
