I DON'T know if any of you have caught the series on Radio 4 of discussions entitled The atheist and the bishop? Featuring Dr Julian Baggini and Richard Harries formerly Bishop of Lambeth the programmes interrogate them on their core beliefs starting from areas of potential conflict.
In the latest programme Bishop Harries made much of the importance of the common good, a notion of society's needs outweighing those of the individual. This was picked up on Saturday's Thought for the Day when the speaker, Dr Giles Fraser highlighted the current spat between Richard Lambert of the Confederation of British Industry and Lord Adair Turner the chairman of the Financial Services Agency.See the full content of this document
