Summary


Choir of the Eton Choral Course Cheltenham Music Festival, Cheltenham Town Hall AFTER intense church choral workshops, masterclasses and coaching Evening Hymn proved to be a triumphal conclusion for those who had attended the residential Eton Choral Course held at Cheltenham College. Singing 'a cappella' a delicate pure sound infused the lofty space above as Arvo Part's meditative Magnificat serenely unfolded. The vocal parts blended and balanced with lush tutti sections and luminous dissonances gently breathed. The clear building-up of layered voices in counterpoint and chords in Part's Nunc Dimittis gave intensity to the climax. All three Renaissance works (of Gesualdo, Ramsey and Peerson) were sung with flowing lines, confident entries and rounded endings.

Two organ solos, enabled course tutors Alexander Ffinch and Alexander Mason to provide greater reverberation around the vast confines.
