Summary


ARE they victims? Are they the perpetrators? Are they merely the acquiescent and anonymous mass, with their every day tools and drills that are to be put to terrible use by tyrants? The figures clad in surgical gowns gather at the start of Edward Hall's brilliant production for the Propeller all-male theatre company, staring out at the audience through their masks like Antony Gormley statues.

The only time they reveal their identities, briefly, is when the mutterings start about the real nature of their king, Richard III. Evil triumphs, it seems, when good men do nothing. England, this bloody England, is a hospital ward with a particularly gruesome line in operations, and a chief surgeon who does not believe in anaesthetic.
