THE South West's Government Office will be axed as part of the coalition Government's war on Labour's regional organisations. Communities and Local Government Secretary, Eric Pickles, said the Bristol-based office was an "agent of Whitehall" that interfered in local decision making.
The Government has also moved to scrap the South West Regional Development Agency, and the Regional Spatial Strategy that set house building targets. The coalition has abolished the South West's regional assembly and regional leaders' board, and opposes regionalising fire control centres.See the full content of this document
