THE news that John Hayes, minister of state for further education, skills and lifelong learning, has given ministerial approval for the Gloucestershire College and Royal Forest of Dean (RFOD) merger to go ahead is, I believe, excellent news for further education in Gloucestershire and most importantly the citizens of the Forest of Dean.
So what happens next? RFOD College will be formally dissolved on January 31 and all of the assets, including the main asset, its staff, will be transferred over to Gloucestershire College. They will retain their current roles, salary and other conditions of service. Over time I will endeavour to harmonise the varied arrangements currently in place. It is important to emphasise that the Royal Forest of Dean campus will continue to deliver further education and that there are no plans to reduce the education and training provision in the Forest. Indeed, it is anticipated that the merged college will increase the range of courses available.See the full content of this document
