Duane's Revved Up with His New Motorbike Club

Summary

DAD-OF-TWO Duane Phillips is revving up support for a new motorbike club. Duane has taken to the saddle and set up his own club from his Matson home after finding other motorbike clubs not up to scratch. He has set up the Cotswold Motorcycle Club from his home in Beacon Road and it will be officially launched today. An event has been scheduled to take place at Frasers of Gloucester, in Bristol Road, where Duane will be welcoming all riders throughout the day. Duane, who rides a Honda, said: "I have been a member of various clubs over the years, but I have always been left a little disappointed with them. "I have found that none of them offered me exactly what I was looking for.

So rather than sit back and do nothing about it, I decided to set up my own. "We are different in that we are open to any rider regardless of gender, age or experience, as long as their bike is 125cc or above." The new club is a joint venture between Duane, a software support worker in Gloucester, and his wife Rhian, 40. "It has got a bit of a family feel about it, I guess, as it is me and my wife plus the club is based at my home," he said. "I am hoping it will be a success, and I am hoping it will appeal to riders from Matson and across the rest of Gloucestershire. "So far I have advertised through word of mouth and we have got a lot of interest, but hopefully the launch event will help even more." Kate Haigh, Gloucester city councillor (Lab, Matson and Robinswood), welcomed Duane's entrepreneurial spirit. She said: "It's great to see local people taking the initiative and combining things they enjoy with something that will benefit the whole community. "I think he will do well, as long as he doesn't cause a problem for the neighbours - which I'm sure he won't." Chris Harrison, Gloucestershire's road safety partnership motorcycle co-ordinator, also welcomed the arrival of the motorbike group. He said: "As far as we are concerned, the formation of groups like this one are great because it makes motorcyclists easier to contact. "It is incredibly difficult to contact individual motorcyclists, so this is great.
