WE tend to take the humble honeybee for granted. During the summer months they flit happily from flower to flower in our garden, occasionally venturing through an open door before being coaxed outside again. What would summer be without them? But honeybees are in decline in many parts of the world - particularly in America, it seems. And it's this decline that's been worrying many folk. It's not just that we could find ourselves with no honey for tea, but we might find ourselves deprived of much of what we eat.
Last week, a concerned audience attended a meeting in Lydney Town Hall to learn more about the bee, and what threatens it. We saw a snatch of film from the USA which showed whole hives disappearing almost overnight. Millions of bees vanished, and beekeepers are concerned.See the full content of this document
