Summary


Economists remained downbeat about the prospects for the housing market despite evidence that activity had bounced back in January.

Nearly two-thirds of estate agents said the number of potential buyers registering with them during the first two weeks of January was higher than they would normally expect for the time of year, while 26 per cent said levels were consistent with the average for the month.
