Summary

MARKS & Spencer in Gloucester celebrates its centenary this weekend. The city mainstay will commemorate the landmark on Saturday with a host of celebrations. Natasha Jenkins, M&S Gloucester store manager, said: "We're really excited to be celebrating such an important milestone here in Gloucester. "We have a rich history in the town and we look forward to welcoming as many of our customers as possible to our day-long celebration this Saturday."

The retailer first began trading in the city in the early 1900s in the form of a Penny Bazaar at 9 Southgate Street before moving in 1913 to 8 Northgate Street, where the store remained for the next 20 years. The Penny Bazaar at the time sold a range of items from sewing equipment and biscuits through to sheet music - all for a penny.
