Coffee Morning Raises Hundreds

PUPILS at Rose Hill Westonbirt School took part in the Macmillan World's Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday, September 25. Parents and pupils donated a huge array of chocolate cakes, which were sold at a coffee morning and again at break time to the youngsters.

500 Jobs Set to Be Lost in County Council Plan

THE axe is set to fall on 500 Shire Hall jobs. Yesterday, Gloucestershire County Council's cabinet approved the first stage of the Building Our Future savings plan - but for hundreds of Shire Hall employees, their future lies in redundancy or voluntary retirement.

Evolution and Knitting Class

TEAMS are wanted for Shortwood Utd FC's kart racing grand prix. The Nailsworth club's fourth annual kart racing grand prix takes place on Monday, November 2. There will be heats, semi-finals and a final for teams and individuals. Team prizes available to be won and the evening includes a hot meal.

Help! My Eco Fashion Show Needs a Venue

BEAUTY queen Laura Entwistle is appealing for help in finding a venue for a fashion show with an eco-theme. Laura, from Chalford Hill, Stroud, was recently crowned Miss Gloucestershire in the Miss Galaxy UK competition. As part of the contest she wants to raise awareness of global warming.

Theft Appeal

Police are appealing to the public to report any sightings of a vehicle that was stolen in Tetbury last week. Between 10pm on Wednesday, September 23 and 7.30am on Thursday, September 24 a dark beige Land Rover was taken from a driveway in Conygar Road.

STAFF from a Stroud funeral director's firm invited people to join them as part of the World's Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Coffee, tea and cakes were served throughout the morning at Philip Ford & Son in Stroud, on Friday.

PEOPLE in the Forest of Dean can meet their street wardens at a car boot sale this weekend. The weekly event, held near the industrial estate in New Road, Whitecroft, near Lydney, will be held between noon and 4pm on Sunday.

Cancer Jabs Continue Despite Health Worries

HEALTH bosses in the county last night said they would continue to offer cervical cancer vaccines to girls and young women. But, as a precautionary measure, any vaccines from the same batch allocated to the school where a 14-year-old girl died after being given the jab have been suspended from use.

THORNBURY 21 GORDON LEAGUE 19 ON a beautiful afternoon, more fitting for cricket than rugby, both sides deserve praise for their efforts in producing a game that to the very end either could have won. Thornbury were first to score with Dave Matthews cutting through poor defence to score an unconverted try.

DURSLEY 39 CHELTENHAM CS 15 IN FINE September sunshine, Dursley christened their new pitch with a fine display to kick off their season. Cheltenham Civil Service scored first with a try against the run of play but missed their conversion.

Bream Hit by Last Gasp Heartbreak

BREAM 21 OLD BRISTOLIANS 26 WITH the match tied at 21-21, Old Bristolians launched a last ditch attack. A speculative kick upfield seemed to be covered by Tai Lakabuka when a freak bounce saw the ball shoot away from the Bream full- back and straight into the hands of the home team winger who sprinted in to give the Bristol side the victory.

Morris Blast After 'Embarrassing' Defeat

PAUL Morris was grim faced after Coney Hill's 27-16 defeat at Chippenham. The head coach said: "That was as disappointing as I can ever remember being watching a game of rugby by a side that I've been in charge of.
