SOUDLEY produced the shock of round one in the GFA Senior Amateur Challenge Cup. The Forest side, who play in Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two, edged a five-goal thriller against Division One outfit Tetbury Town as home advantage paid dividends in their 3-2 win.

KING'S Stanley maintained their 100 percent record with a last- gasp 1-0 home victory over Yate Town Reserves in the Surridge Gloucestershire County League. The visitors had the better of the first 45 minutes after Stanley's Danny Chandler had to leave the field through injury.

Pointon Keeps On Producing Talent Pictures: Not for Resale

FORMER Gloucester fly-half Dave Pointon has had a considerable impact on rugby in the county - bringing him nominations for two accolades in our Sports Awards. Safe Water Speaker

The safe water campaign for Gloucestershire has invited a speaker from Hampshire to address a meeting in Stroud next month. Stephen Peckham from Hampshire Against Fluoridation, will give a talk on The threat of fluoridation of our tap water in the South West, from 11.30am on Saturday, October 10, at The School of Art and Science, Lansdown, Stroud. The talk will be followed by the AGM of the Safe Water Campaign for Gloucestershire.

Delight at Pounds 40k Flooding Works

HOMEOWNERS in Linden have welcomed news that Pounds 40,000 will be spent on flood prevention in their area. More than one hundred homes in Linden will benefit from the Pounds 40,000 investment into flood prevention work, which will see the flood-prone area protected from repetitions of the chaos of July 2007.

Session to Monitor Students' Progress

THE PROGRESS of pupils at a school in Brockworth will be monitored in a special session due to go ahead next month. Brockworth Enterprise School, in Mill Lane, Brockworth, will be holding an Academic Monitoring Day on October 6. The day will be for students in Years 7 to 11, and parents and carers will be receiving details by letter this week.

Give Children Chance in Life

FOSTER parents are being sought across the county by Gloucestershire County Council. Councillor Paul McLain, Cabinet member for children and young people at Shire Hall, said: "Our aim for all children is to give them the best possible life chances, which means offering the opportunity to foster to the widest possible range of people.

A NEW NHS service has been launched in Gloucestershire to help people suffering from stress, anxiety and depression. Let's Talk, which will be run by The 2gether NHS Foundation Trust, aims to improve access to psychological therapy within the county.

VOLUNTEERS are being sought for a new Quedgeley choir. The group will meet at Quedgeley's St James Church each Sunday evening at 7pm.

Road Closure

THE B4008 in Hardwicke will be closed between the Green Lane junction and the Cross Keys roundabout for two weekends. The busy road will be shut on Saturday, October 31, Sunday, November 1, Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8. The road will be blocked off to allow Gloucestershire Highways to resurface the carriageway.

Quiz and Curry

A CURRY and quiz evening will be held in Hardwicke on Friday, October 9. The event will take place at Hardwicke Parochial Primary School in Poplar Way, starting at 7pm. Teams must have between two and six members, with an entry cost of Pounds 5 per person, which will include the curry.

Football Club

BUDDING Wayne Rooneys are required by Quedgeley Wanderers. The club, based at Waterwells, are after players of all ages, from seniors to under fives, for their teams.

Taste Buds Ready?

A SPECIAL evening of cookery will take place in Hardwicke this weekend. The event will be at the village hall in Green Lane on Friday evening.

Plea to Help Teach Gospel

VOLUNTEERS are being asked to step forward to help teach the words of the bible in local schools. The Open The Book group is formed by members of the congregation at St Nicholas Church.

Chips for Pets

PET owners can get their animals microchipped for just Pounds 11 at a special event in Quedgeley this weekend. The Cheltenham animal shelter will be at Tesco on Bristol Road on Sunday between 10am and 3pm.
